One in a Million: Journey to Your Promised Land by Priscilla Shirer

From winning the lottery to getting struck by lightning, some things in life are both highly improbable and completely beyond human control. Yet the odds of other occurrences, no matter how unlikely, lie in the hands of the individual. In Exodus 1, two million Israelites were invited by God to enter the Promised Land, but only two ever made it. That’s a one in a million chance. Today, however, over two billion Christians in the world can each determine their own odds of reaching the Promised Land through their relationship with God.

In her latest book, One in a Million: Journey to Your Promised Land (B&H Publishing Group, March 2010, 978-0-8054-6476-4, $14.99), bestselling author and Bible teacher Priscilla Shirer explores the plight of the Israelites through the wilderness and encourages Christians to stop limiting their faith to hearing God’s promises on Sunday mornings. She challenges readers to actually listen and make a conscious effort to experience God’s miracles in their day-to-day life.

“So many Christians today go to church every Sunday out of habit or obligation, but never choose to see God in the everyday,” Shirer says. “To truly follow God’s purpose, we must take our relationship with Him beyond the pews.”

In addition to being a popular Bible teacher, Shirer is also a renowned conference speaker, fresh off a widely celebrated speech at Catalyst. She has addressed corporations, organizations and Christian audiences across the nation and worldwide. Shirer has spoken to over 77,000 people at nine events in 2009. Most notably, Shirer regularly appears alongside Beth Moore and Kay Arthur at Deeper Still conferences. She is co-founder of Going Beyond Ministries with her husband, Jerry. In One in a Million, Shirer invites readers to find and pursue the path to their God-given inheritance.

“When I look at how many Israelites actually experienced all that God has to offer, I can see why some people choose not to devote themselves to Him,” Shirer says. “But if you look for His guidance in daily living, you will be delivered from strongholds, conquer your wilderness living and become one of the few to enter the Promised Land.”

In an interview, Shirer can discuss topics such as:
  • From church to carpool: Finding God in everyday life
  • In what ways are Israelites from Egypt and modern day Christians alike?
  • Potholes and pitfalls: How to stay strong in your faith when the road gets rough
  • Is it possible to reach the Promised Land if your relationship with God is confined to Sundays?

Shirer, the daughter of well-known author and pastor Dr. Tony Evans, currently resides in Dallas, Texas, with her husband and their three sons. One of today’s most popular Christian speakers, she appears regularly with Beth Moore and Kay Arthur at Deeper Still conferences. She holds a master’s degree in biblical studies from Dallas Theological Seminary. Previous books by Shirer include A Jewel in His Crown (Moody Publishers, 2004), He Speaks to Me (Moody Publishers, 2006) and Discerning the Voice of God (Moody Publishers, 2007).  She also co-authored Anointed, Transformed and Redeemed (Lifeway Christian Resources, 2008) with Beth Moore and Kay Arthur. Additionally, Shirer has authored three video driven Bible studies. For more information, visit www.goingbeyond.com.

My View:

Mrs. Shirer's ability to bring Old Testament biblical times into the present is amazing!  I could not put this book down and I will definitely be reading it again!  I have marked all through the book with little tidbits of wisdom that can be used in my day to day life and also in yours if you pick up the book.

One in a Million: Journey to Your Promised Land is great for the individual or for a group.  To be able to use the tools Priscilla gives you to make it through this life that God has given you is priceless.  I will definitely be recommending the book to my women's bible study.

What Priscilla Shirer bible studies have you done?  If you haven't had the opportunity to do one of the Deeper Still studies, do it!  I mean, Priscilla Shirer, Beth Moore and Kay Arthur all at once!!!  The wisdom just rolls off of them and covers you in the grace of Jesus Christ!

God Bless!

Wubbzy Goes To School Review

Our favorite yellow bendy-tailed friend is at it again!  Just in time for back-to-school, his newest DVD “Wubbzy Goes To School” is a perfect and simple way for families to help the youngest set get ready for the big day – for the very first time – from a most trusted friend, Wubbzy!

About the movie:

“Wubbzy Goes To School” (SRP $16.98) puts the “cool” in “school” with six charming episodes that will have everyone ready to hit the books.  In “Who Needs School?,” Wubbzy is nervous about going off to school for the very first time and decides he can learn all he needs to know on his own.  When things don’t work out as expected and Wubbzy has no one to play with, he realizes that maybe school isn’t so bad after all.  In another episode, “New Kid On The Block,” Wubbzy learns that meeting and accepting new friends can be a big! big! big! job. When Murphy, a larger-than-life new student, joins the class, Wubbzy finds that good friends can come in all shapes and sizes.

Additional episodes include: “Gotta Dance,” “Wubbzy the Star,” “You Gotta Have Art” and “Magic Tricks,” starring Wuzzleburg’s own Moo Moo the Magician!  Fans will also be “wowed” with cool bonus features such as the “Meet Wubbzy’s Schoolmates” photo gallery, coloring and activity sheets and more.

What did I think?
Or the better question would be, what did Turbo and Diva think?  The love Wubbzy so that makes them a little biased, but this is another winner!  They love the colorful critters and the bouncy energy of Wubbzy!  Very cute movie that is great for all ages:)

Enjoy!
